This crochet granny square blanket free pattern includes 3 different kinds of granny squares seamed together to create a lovely blanket. The Southern Blooms Blanket combines the right amount of floral details and simplicity to make this blanket both modern and timeless.

As a young crocheter, I am very passionate about recreating crochet into a modern art form, that is not your typical “grandma craft.” But there is a part of me that has a love for vintage aesthetics. For years, I have wanted to create a crochet granny square blanket that nods towards the vintage granny square, while still being fresh and modern.
This crochet granny square blanket combines the right amount of modern and classic style.
I think I achieved that look with this blanket ;). The monochrome all-white color gives this blanket a minimalist look, while the floral and eyelet granny squares give this blanket a feminine and delicate feel.

This design was definitely a labor of love. This was my first time every designing with granny squares and coming up with my own granny square pattern. It took a lot of constant reworking and experimenting. But I am so happy with the results. This blanket turned out better than I could have ever imagined!
I wanted this blanket to be as easy to crochet as possible, so if you purchase the PDF written pattern, you will also receive an additional 12-page PDF photo tutorial. This photo tutorial is only available through purchasing the pattern.

For this blanket I used WeCrochet DK Squish. This yarn is so soft and it creates a beautiful drape for this throw. I wanted to use a DK weight yarn to keep this blanket lightweight and to create beautiful drape. But don’t let the weight of the yarn scare you, these squares work up really quickly and sewing them together takes even less time!
