This crochet plaid washcloth and towel free pattern is a lovely kitchen set that combines classic Southern style with rustic farmhouse. This set would make a wonderful home gift, and its even sweeter that they’re handmade. The pattern includes two charts, that are both a different plaid patterns.

I am so happy to be releasing this pattern with you! I have been wanting to make something with this classic, (what I call) Southern blue and white style. But for a long time I didn’t know what to do. Like most design ideas, it just popped into my head one day to make a tea towel and dishcloth set!
In the pattern, I have included two different sizes, one for a dishcloth and one for a tea towel. Additionally, I have included two different plaid patterns that can easily be used for both sizes.

These towels are much easier to crochet then you think! While you can crochet so many beautiful things with tapestry and intarsia crochet, I personally do not like having to carry colors while I’m crocheting. To make the base of the towel, you only have to crochet a simple rectangle with one color (I did this with the white). So to achieve the plaid look, I used the technique of surface crochet. This technique is a lot easier to do than it seems and I have an entire photo tutorial on how to do it HERE.

For this pattern, I used my favorite kitchen cotton which is WeCrochet (Knit Picks) Dishie! This yarn is soft, yet durable, making it great for use in the kitchen. I also love that Dishie comes in 30 solid color ways, 12 beautiful twisted color ways, and 18 multi color ways.
