I’ve had this idea for a shawl with the bobbles for over a year. Every season when I planned out the patterns for the season, I included this design in the line-up. However with every season, I just never got around to making it.
If you follow me on Instagram than you will know that I dyed yarn with avocados this summer. I knew I didn’t want to just let this beautiful yarn sit in my stash for months (or years!) so I began brainstorming ideas for the perfect project for this yarn. I remembered this bobble shawl design I had envisioned in my head and I knew that it would be the perfect project for this yarn!
I have to admit, this project really was perfect for this yarn ;). I knew I was going to love it, but I just didn’t realize how well it would turn out until I finished the shawl.
This bobble shawl crochet pattern uses simple stitches and it’s so much fun to crochet!
This shawl was such a delight to make! It was so satisfying to see it grow larger and larger with every row! This was also my first time making an asymmetrical shawl, and I have to admit it will not be my last!
The yarn I used for the Blush Bobble Shawl is Southern Blooms Blanket and it was quickly become one of my favorite DK weight yarns! It is so soft and it is a delight to work with! For the pink hues that I dyed, I used the Bare colorway, but I also used the Bare for the bobbles as well.

Materials
- 565 total yards of DK weight (3) yarn. 500 yards for the main color(s) (see note #3), 65 yards for the contrasting color. I used US J/6.00mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
Notes
- The pattern is worked in US crochet terms.
- This shawl is worked from one corner and is increased on one side.
- I used three different hues of blush yarn, and I have included the color changes in the pattern if you would like to follow the same color changes. However, I think this shawl would look beautiful with just two colors.
Skill Level: Easy
Size: Approximate measurements AFTER blocking. Widest Width = 36 inches, Longest Length = 51 inches
Stitches Used:
Sl st: Slip Stitch
Ch: Chain
Sc: Single Crochet
Hdc: Half Double Crochet
Bobble st: Bobble Stitch
Yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over, pull back through, yarn over pull through first 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, insert hook into same st, yarn over, pull through, yarn over pull through first 2 loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, insert hook into same st, yarn over, pull through, yarn over pull through first 2 loops (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.
Gauge: Approximately 7 rows of 7 hdcs = 2 inches
Bobble Shawl Crochet Pattern
With Color A, Ch 3
Row 1: 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch (2). Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: 2 hdcs in first st, 1 hdc in next st (3). Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: 1 hdc in 2 sts, 2 hdc in last st (4). Ch 1, turn.
Switch to Color B
Row 4: 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in each st (5). Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: 1 hdc in every st, 2 hdc in last st (6). Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in each st (7). Ch 1, turn.
Switch to Color C
Row 7: 1 hdc in each st, 2 hdc in last st (8). Ch 1, turn.
Row 8: 2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in each st (9). Ch 1, turn.
Row 9: 1 hdc in each st, 2 hdc in last st (10). Ch 1, turn.
Switch to Color D
Row 10: 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st *1 bobble st, 1 sc in next 3 st* repeat across (11). Ch 1, turn.
Switch to Color C
Rows 11-19: Repeat rows 7-8. Remember to keep increasing on the one side and this will cause the final st count for each row to increase by 1.
Row 20: Repeat row 10. NOTE because the number of stitches is constantly changing, it is impossible to always have 2 scs on both sides of the row. With each bobble row, start with 3 sc and continue working 3 scs in between every bobble until the end.
