This free crochet bag pattern will become your new favorite bag for summer! The Harbor Bag is classic and modern in style, making it super versatile and functional. With plenty of room, this tote bag is incredibly durable. The use of a small crochet hook, double stranded yarn, and a double base ensures that this bag is very stable and reliable.

The Harbor Bag was inspired by the wide, woven bags that I have been seeing all over Pinterest (here and here). I couldn’t get this beautiful bag design out of my head. I have always admired woven bags for their natural simplicity and effortless style.
As I tend to do with most things that I love, I look for ways to make it. After just a few attempts, I am beyond thrilled with how this beautiful design turned out! This free crochet bag pattern utilizes basic stitches to achieve the lovely woven look.

While this bag does not have the stiff durability of most woven bags, it is equally durable in its structure. I was very intentional in designing this tote because I wanted it to be dependable with a tight fabric that would not allow its contents to escape. Additionally, the Harbor Bag features a double base to minimize stretching and increase the amount of weight that it can handle.
I genuinely love the additional element of style the leather handles add. I really think it’s the leather straps that take this free crochet bag pattern from looking handmade to store bought. While the leather handles serve as a style purpose, they also add more durability to the bag! Securely fastened to the bag, these handles won’t stretch at all.

The last element of the Harbor Bag that I wanted to highlight was the yarn! I used one of my absolute favorite yarns for bags for this design. Lion Brand Rewind is a bulky (category 5) tape yarn made from polyester and viscose. I cannot express enough how soft this yarn it! Rewind is truly a joy to crochet with, and when double stranded, it creates a dense fabric that is perfect for bags! This yarn is available in some beautiful colors, but I love using to Willow color for a natural look to imitate the woven bags.
