Well isn’t this the most darling little project for spring?! I love a fun little crochet project during the warmer months, and this cozy is the perfect pattern! Quick and easy, this cozy is the perfect afternoon/weekend project, and it’s the ideal pattern for using up scraps of cotton yarn (which is always a win for me!).

I wanted to maximize the feminine and whimsical style with this design between the lace-inspired stitch, the ruffle edging, and ribbon detail. This pattern was so fun to design and crochet, and I hope you love it just as much as I do:)

Materials

Yarn

70 yards/23 grams of a light DK weight (#3) yarn.

The sample is crocheted in Universal Yarn Bamboo Pop in Cream. It is recommended to use a yarn that contains natural fibers (cotton is best), as this will absorb water condensation more effectively over a synthetic material like acrylic.

The pattern is worked in US crochet terms.
The beginning of round ch counts as a stitch when stated in the pattern.

Measurements

When laying flat, the cozy measures approximately 4 ⅛ inches wide and 5 ¼ inchestall.

The cup cozy is designed to fit a standard 16 oz cup. This also fits pint mason jars and other standard cups.

Ways to adjust the size is detailed in the pattern.

Gauge

After round 5 of the base, the diameter of the circle should measure approximately 1 ¾ inches

Pattern

BASE

Make a magic circle, ch 1 (alternatively ch 2 and work the first round into the second ch from hook)

Round 1: 8 sc into magic circle (8 sts). Sl st into first st, ch 1.

Round 2: 2 sc into every st (16 sts). Sl st into first st, ch 1.

Round 3: *1 sc into st, 2 sc into next st* repeat from * around (24 sts). Sl st into first st, ch 1.

Round 4: *1 sc into 2 sts, 2 sc into next st* repeat from * around (32 sts). Sl st into first st, ch 1.

Round 5: *1 sc into 7 sts, 2 sc into next st* repeat from * around (36 sts). Sl st into first st, ch 2 (this will count as a st in the next round)

Here you can add more rounds to the base for a larger cozy.

SIDES

Remember to ch 2 after the last round. This counts as the first hdc+1 ch

Round 1: Work 1 hdc into the same st as the ch 2. *Skip 1 st [1 hdc, 1 ch, 1 hdc] in next st* repeat from * around (36 sts, this does NOT count the ch 1 in between the hdc sts)

The body is worked in a continuous spiral, meaning you will not join at the end of each round. I recommend using a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of round.

Round 2-21: In each ch space between hdc sts work [1 hdc, 1 ch, 1 hdc]. (36 sts, this does NOT count the ch 1 in between the hdc sts)

Add more or less rounds to the side for a taller or shorter cozy.

After the last round, sl st into the first st.

Ch 2

RUFFLE BORDER

In the same st as the ch 2, work 3 dc. *Work 4 dc into the ch space, work 4 in the space in between the hdc* repeat around.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

RIBBON DETAIL

Thread the ribbon through a needle. Weave the needle back to front around the hdc from the last row worked (just under the ruffle)

You should have both ends of the ribbon on the right side. Tie a bow. Be careful to not cinch on the ribbon to much, as this will tighten the top and make it more difficult to slide the cozy onto a cup. Feel free to use a little glue if you feel like you need to secure the bow more.
