The Poppy Coaster is the cutest little accessory to add to your space. Quick and easy to crochet, these coasters are perfect for using up scraps of cotton yarn. These flower-inspired coasters are whimsical, cute, girly, and very versatile!
The Poppy Coaster was created for the simple reason that I needed more coasters!🙈 The beauty of crochet is you can make anything you want to match your style! I wanted to create a coaster that was simplistic, with a few feminine details.
I love how customizable and versatile this pattern is. If the scalloped border isn’t your vibe, feel free to switch out the border for a plain border. You can also use a contrasting color for the border, which I think is so adorable!
This crochet pattern uses such small amounts of yarn, perfect for using up scraps of yarn. But if you’re looking for a yarn to use, I highly recommend using WeCrochet Dishie. This is my favorite cotton yarn for home projects! It’s so soft and delightful to crochet with, while remaining it’s structure and durability. Not to mention the color options are endless and beautiful!

Yarn
24 yards/12 grams of worsted weight (#4) cotton yarn. All samples were made in WeCrochet Dishie.
It is recommended to use a yarn that contains natural fibers (cotton is best), as this will absorb water condensation more effectively over a synthetic material like acrylic.

- This pattern is very customizable. If the scallop border is not your vibe, feel free to switch it out for a different or simpler border. Additionally, have fun with the colors! Adding a contrasting color for the border, adds such a cute different vibe!

The coaster approximately 4 inches x 4 inches
Before blocking the length will be a little shorter than 4 inches. It’s recommended to block the coaster emphasizing the length to create more of a true square.

Ch 18
Row 1: 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook and 1 hdc in every ch across (17 sts). Ch 1, turn.
Row 2-4: 1 hdc in every st (17 sts). Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: 1 hdc in first 7 sts. Ch 3, skip 3 sts, 1 hdc in last 7 sts (14 hdc). Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: 1 hdc in first 5 sts. Ch 5, 1 sc into the ch 4 space, ch 5, skip 2 sts. 1 hdc in last 5 sts (10 hdc). Ch 1, turn.
Row 7: 1 hdc in 5 sts. 2 hdc in ch 5 space, ch 4, 2 hdc in ch 5 space. 1 hdc in last 5 sts (14 sts). Ch 1, turn.

Border
If you are switching colors, join new color now. Remember to ch 1 and turn after the final row (Work the ch 1 in contrasting color if using a different color for the border). In the corner, work [1 hdc, 1 ch, 1 sl st] all in the same st
Evenly work [1 sl st, 1 ch, 1 hdc, 1 ch, 1 sl st] into the same st or space around the coaster, working 1 scallop into each corner.
NOTE: You will not want to work a scallop into every st as it will not lay flat. Instead work 8-9 scallops on each side of the coaster.
Fasten off, and weave in loose ends.
It is strongly recommended to block the coaster with and emphasis on on pinning the coaster out to reach 4 inches length wise. Before blocking the coaster measures a little under 4 inches length wise, so blocking helps to add a little more length. I will pin mine out to 4 inches, and then spritz with water and let it sit over night until it dries.
