The Boho Cottage Coasters are the perfect addition to any boho home. The minimal texture is knit-inspired and it is both modern and beginner-friendly. Add leather handles for additional character while still maintaining a modern and minimalist look.
Most of my designs are born out of inspiration rather than necessity. However, this pattern is different because one afternoon I realized that I needed some coasters. Naturally, instead of going out and buying coasters, I decided to make my own with materials that I already had in my stash!
I wanted these coasters to be really minimal and modern, while still having a level of sophistication. To achieve this look, I opted to make these coasters look knit.
After I made the coasters, they felt a little plain to me, so I added these cute little leather tags. I really think they elevate the look of the coasters and make them look store bought (which is almost always the goal of a crocheter 🙂 ).
When I say that these coasters are beginner friendly, I mean they are beginner-friendly. All you need to know how to crochet chains and slip stitches – yep that’s right, the two easiest crochet stitches ever.
The slip stitches create a really dense and sturdy texture which is perfect for coasters!
If you are a visual person, I have created a video tutorial on how to make these coasters. But if you prefer reading patterns, the free pattern is below!
Ad-free PDF: Click HERE
- 80 yards of worsted weight (4) yarn
- I used 1 skein of Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in Ecru
- US E/3.50mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle
- Scraps of leather
- Needle and thread for leather
- The pattern is worked in US crochet terms.
- Because the pattern is worked in slip stitches, it is important to keep the tension looser than normal. This will make working into the stitches easier.
Skill Level: Beginner
Size: The finished size is approximately 4 ½ inches by 4 ½ inches
Sl st: Slip Stitch
Gauge: Approximately 18 rows of 11 sl sts in the front loop = 2 inches
Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, work 1 sl st. 1 sl st in every ch (24). Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: 1 sl st in the front loop only of every st (24). Ch 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 for a total of 35 rows or until the coaster measures 4 inches.
Border: Start at the dot and sl st evenly around the coaster to create a clean finish. Sl st into fist sl st in border.
Fasten off, weave in loose ends.
Cut a piece of leather ¾ x 4 inches. Sew it onto the wrong side of the coaster.
